Galway Guide: Three Things May 26, 2016 – Posted in: Galway, Travel
Earlier this spring the New York Times let the secret out about Galway when the city graced their 36 Hours Guide. As a local, I thought I should share a few of my favourite places in a mini Galway guide.
Coffeewerk + Press has undoubtedly the best coffee in Galway. Located on Quay Street it is also a treasure trove of beautiful design pieces and is a pick-me-up for both soul and senses.
Just a few doors up is Seagan Ua Neachtain or Neachtains to the locals. This colourful pub is a Galway institution with cosy snugs and the most conducive atmosphere for chats.
Leaving the city behind head for Inis Meain. Our favourite of the three Aran Islands, it has the most breathtaking landscape. Bring your walking shoes and make sure to look up Inis Meain Knitwear. A visit to their factory in the mid-nineties resulted in the photoshoot above featuring my brothers, Alan Friel (model) and Fintan Friel (photographer). Their timeless classic garments still look contemporary almost twenty years on and inspire us to keep the unique West of Ireland aesthetic alive in our Galway Barrel Bag.
